What is the connection between Trump's policy towards China and negotiations with Russia, and how does the current administration's policy differ from the first Trump administration?
To discuss these issues, we spoke with Grant Newsham, a senior fellow at the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies and a retired colonel in the US Marine Corps.
According to Newsham, "the administration wants the war [in Ukraine] to end so it can focus on China."
And about the recent development when Trump called Ukrainian President Zelensky "an unelected dictator," Newsham says: "This is not unusual for both sides. Noisy arguments can erupt even between allies or partners. It is a bit unusual to have them in public, and usually these things are done secretly behind closed doors."
