While tensions in the Middle East have flared recently, US defense officials maintain that the primary long-term threat to America remains unchanged—China is still Washington’s top priority.
NTD News spoke with retired US Army Colonel John Mills, now a senior fellow at the Center for Security Policy, who explained why the Chinese regime remains the most pressing concern.
According to Mills, “The strikes on the three Iranian nuclear facilities don’t signal any shift back to focusing on the Middle East. The United States is a global power, and the Trump Doctrine is clear—we intend to build strength and project it worldwide. Asia remains the priority. We temporarily diverted some resources to deal with the Iranian facilities—they were destroyed—and now we can reallocate forces back to the Pacific region.”
Mills emphasized that “Iran is a key ally of the Chinese regime. In fact, it may be more important to China than even Russia. If the Iranian regime collapses—and it appears close to doing so—it means the right flank of China collapses just as it faces off with the US in the Pacific. That’s a major loss for China.”
