Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel has agreed to a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon at the request of President Trump, in order to allow progress toward a combined political and military solution with the Lebanese government.
Netanyahu emphasized that the decision comes after what he described as major Israeli achievements in the north, including the elimination of both immediate and long-term threats posed by Hezbollah.
He stated that Israel neutralized infiltration risks and anti-tank attacks, while also destroying the majority of Hezbollah’s missile and rocket stockpiles and eliminating its longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Netanyahu highlighted the establishment of a deep security zone along the entire northern border, describing it as a strategic shift from a “ring of fire” to a “ring of security.” He added that Hezbollah is now “a shadow of itself,” though Israel’s mission is not complete, with further plans targeting remaining rocket and drone threats.
