IDF estimates: Gaza operation lowered chance of Jerusalem Day conflict

'Flag March' to take place as planned, IDF estimates Hamas will maintain restraint.

INN reports that the IDF estimates that Operation Shield and Arrow reduced the chance that Hamas will fire at Israel on Jerusalem Day, Israel Hayom reported Monday.

Operation Shield and Arrow was fought between Israel and the Islamic Jihad terror group; nevertheless, the IDF estimates that Israel is a more secure position with regards to Hamas as well.

On Thursday, the eve of Jerusalem Day, the annual Flag March will be held, with participants marching throughout the length of Jerusalem.

The march is expected to be held as planned, and it is believed that since the Hamas terror group did not join in the fighting during Operation Shield and Arrow, the chance that it will decide to fire at Israel during the parade is not high, though it still exists.

Earlier this month, a Hamas spokesman told the Arab Sawa news agency, "We will not allow the Zionist occupation to carry out its plans to Judaize the Al Aqsa Mosque or the city of Jerusalem through division, sacrifices, or 'Flag Marches.' The Palestinian people will continue to protect the Al Aqsa Mosque and will continue to thwart any attempt to expand Zionist control over Jerusalem."
