NEWSRAEL: While the Israel-Russian ties seem on the outside very strained, many in Israel wonder if this is "just on the surface".ย
Iran is extremely disturbed by the successful assassinations carried out by Israel of its own people in Syria.
On Saturday, two intelligence officers of the Al-Quds Force were killed in the prestigious Almaza neighborhood.
The Iranians are convinced that there is someone "from the inside" who is passing accurate information to Israel that helps to eliminate the senior officials.
A newspaper belonging to the conservative camp in Iran did not explicitly accuse Russia of providing intelligence assistance to Israel, but hinted at its "non-commitment" to Tehran.
"The Russians are not obligated to protect Iranian interests, unless they are within the Russian rules," it said. The newspaper noted that Russia and Iran have a common interest against the "terrorist organizations" in Syria, but at the same time, acknowledged the existence of differences.
Among other things, it was written in the Iranian newspaper that Russia believes that some of the conflicts between Iran and Israel on Syrian soil originate from problems outside Syria and therefore "does not intervene".
The Iranian newspaper noted that in none of Israel's assassinations in Syria (and there were 20 such since 2015), Russia did not warn Iran, which could indicate that at least it did not try to prevent them.
