According to sources close to the matter, Iraq’s senior Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, recently sent an urgent message to Iran regarding the situation in Lebanon.
Sistani stressed that the condition of Lebanon’s Shiite community has become “sensitive and extremely critical,” warning of the risk of a new wave of displacement and growing vulnerability in Shiite towns and villages. He called for immediate protection and decisive action to prevent further deterioration.
Sistani’s message coincided with the visit of Ali Hassan Khalil, political adviser to Lebanese Parliament Speaker and Amal Movement leader Nabih Berri, to Tehran.
Khalil met with senior Iranian officials, including Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Reports say Khalil’s position echoed Sistani’s: Lebanon must avoid another war and chart a clear path toward a more stable future.
