Joseph Aoun says he would leave the room rather than meet Israel’s prime minister while Israeli military operations continue.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has denied reports that he plans to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his upcoming visit to Washington.
In an interview with the veteran Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar, Aoun said relations between Israel and Lebanon are indeed on President Donald Trump’s agenda, but insisted there is no truth to reports of a planned meeting.
Aoun reportedly said that as long as Israeli attacks and what he called the “occupation” of territory in southern Lebanon continue, he has no intention of meeting Netanyahu. He added that should the two unexpectedly find themselves in the same room, he would leave.
