Whoopi Goldberg questions the arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro — and gets firmly corrected on live TV.
During a heated segment on The View, Whoopi Goldberg criticized the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, asking rhetorically: “Who voted for this?” — implying a lack of legitimacy or public mandate.
Her remarks were quickly dismantled by Ana Navarro, who pointed out a basic but critical fact: Maduro is not a democratically elected leader. Navarro, speaking from South Florida — home to millions of Venezuelan and Latin American exiles — explained that Maduro’s rule is the result of election fraud, repression, and force, not popular consent.
Navarro emphasized that Maduro lost internationally monitored elections, silenced the opposition, jailed rivals, and drove millions of Venezuelans to flee the country. In that context, asking “who voted for this” fundamentally misunderstands the reality of dictatorship — where votes are irrelevant, and power is maintained through fear, corruption, and violence.
