According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, Israel established a covert military outpost in the Iraqi desert to support Israeli air operations against Iran during the recent conflict.
The report, citing American officials, states that the base was constructed shortly before the outbreak of the war and was used as a logistical and operational support facility for the Israeli Air Force.
According to the officials, Israel deployed special forces personnel at the site, including search-and-rescue teams intended to assist in the event Israeli aircraft were shot down over hostile territory.
The report further claims that Israeli forces at the outpost were involved in clashes with Iraqi personnel who allegedly came close to discovering the installation early in the war.
