A Polish activist traveling with the Sumud land convoy toward Gaza has reportedly disappeared in eastern Libya after being detained near a checkpoint controlled by forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar. She was part of a larger group that have all gone missing.
According to Polish local media, "celeb" activist, Laura Kwoczała-Alsubaih, from Oleśnica, was part of the Sumud convoy, an international activist initiative linked to the Gaza-bound flotilla campaign. The convoy reportedly included more than 200 participants from 25 countries.
Her mother said Laura last contacted her before leaving the convoy camp to join another attempt to negotiate safe passage through a checkpoint in eastern Libya, as the group sought permission to continue toward Egypt. After she left the camp, her location signal disappeared, and other convoy participants also lost contact with her.
The case exposes a dangerous illusion among some Western anti-Israel activists: the belief that entering the Arab world under a pro-Gaza banner automatically guarantees protection, sympathy, or safe passage. Libya is not a protest campus or a European street march. It is a fractured country divided between rival armed forces, militias, and political authorities.
