A top Yemeni official is applauding President Trump’s tough stance on the Iran-backed Houthis.
An official from Yemen’s legitimate government praised President Donald Trump for his aggressive actions against the Houthis, calling recent American airstrikes on the terror group an important step towards their destruction.
In an interview with the Media Line, Yemeni Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said that the Houthis function as “an advanced military arm of Iran.”
Al-Eryani slammed previous inaction from the Biden administration, saying that “ignoring this threat is like allowing a cancer to spread to its final stages.”
But, since Trump has entered office, “the new administration has instituted a strong and clear policy to deter this expansion,” he told the Media Line.
“Make America Great Again is not just an election slogan; it was embodied in practical positions that restore America’s role as a leader in the free world,” al-Eryani added.
The minister noted that recent sanctions on banks utilized by the Houthis have disrupted the terror group’s operations.
“The U.S. action is a clear message that the world will no longer turn a blind eye to a reality in which a designated terrorist militia dominates financial and banking institutions,” he said.
Notably, Al-Eryani downplayed the risk posed to Israel by ongoing Houthi missile attacks, which have sent millions of Israelis scrambling to bomb shelters as recently as Sunday.
The Houthis “do not represent a real military threat to Israel,” Al-Eryani said, explaining that the Houthis attack Israel in order to disrupt the Yemeni public from their actions within the embattled, impoverished Arabian peninsula country.
Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war more than a decade, after the Iran-backed Houthi rebels attempted to overthrow the country’s legitimate government.
As of early 2025, 377,000 people are believed to have died during the Yemeni Civil War, according to the United Nations.
This figure includes deaths from military clashes, along with malnutrition and disease.
