Video of the 1920 Nebi Musa pogrom and their aftermath. Nothing has changed.
The Pogrom of 1920: The Moslem festival of Nebi Mussa, coinciding with Easter and Passover, provided a spark to ignite pent-up passions.
Thousands of Arab pilgrims started converging on Jerusalem on April 4, 1920; the crowd, inflamed by anti-Jewish diatribes, began attacking Jewish passers-by and looting Jewish stores.
Soon, Jewish blood was shed and the mob rushed into the Jewish quarter to kill and to pillage.
The Arab police either adopted a passive attitude or joined the rioters.
The pogrom continued the next day, April 5.
When order was restored, largely due to the Jabotinsky-led Jewish self-defense, five Jews and four Arabs were reported killed, and 211 Jews and 21 Arabs wounded; two Jewish girls were raped.
