A report published by the Catholic charity "Aid to the Church in Need" revealed that Christians in Syria are suffering from increasing oppression and persecution now, more than they were when the "Islamic State" (ISIS) controlled large areas of the country during previous years.
The CEO of the organization in the Netherlands, Peter Broders, lamented the increasing persecution of Christians in recent times, and said: "What amazed me the most is that our Christian brothers in the Middle East (Syria, Palestine and Iraq), the cradle of Christianity, are suffering more now than they did in the days of ISIS."
According to the report, the number of Christians in Syria has decreased over a decade from one and a half million (10 percent of the population) before 2011 to about 300,000 now (less than 2 percent of the population).
