Confrontation in the Security Council during an emergency discussion on the tensions between Israel and Lebanon.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou-Habib accused Israel of the electronic attack and said: "Israel fled Lebanon in 2000 and is now repeating the mistakes of the past."
Ambassador Danon answered him and said to him: "If you continue to ignore Hezbollah's aggression, the suffering of the Lebanese people will be on your shoulders!"
The Security Council convened tonight for an emergency discussion on the latest developments in Lebanon. The Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib and the ambassadors of Iran and Syria participated in the discussion convened at the request of Algeria.
Iran's ambassador to the UN blamed Israel: "The attack against our ambassador in Lebanon is an act of terrorism and a violation of the rules of international law"
Lebanon's foreign minister said in the discussion: "Israel was defeated and fled Lebanon in 2000. Now it seeks to repeat the mistakes of the past."
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon answered the Lebanese Foreign Minister:
"Sir, Abdullah Bu-Habib, you allowed a terrorist organization to build a state within a state and wreak havoc on your people. Instead of blaming your peace-loving neighbor, the time has come to take action and rein in Hezbollah, the only way to prevent further escalation.
If you continue to ignore Hezbollah's aggression, the suffering of the Lebanese people will be on your shoulders.'
