In his Friday sermon at the Islamic Center of Union City, New Jersey, Imam Dr. Mohammad Abassi chastised Muslims for avoiding fighting for the sake of Allah out of fear of death, saying that death will come whether one fights or not.
He stated that the Quran teaches Muslims to use whatever they have to fight for Allah's cause, citing the example of the stick used by Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in his final moments to fight the drone that killed him.
At the end of the sermon, Dr. Abassi addressed political activism among Muslims in America. He explained that while mosques and organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) are registered as 501(c)(3) nonprofits and cannot endorse candidates, Muslims are now forming 501(c)(4) organizations, or political action committees (PACs), that can endorse and fundraise for political candidates.
He compared these PACs to AIPAC (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee), which he claimed has a "babysitter" for each member of Congress.
