One-sentence summary: Lebanon’s foreign minister openly accused Iran of undermining Lebanese sovereignty and fueling instability through armed proxies.
Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji said in an interview with Al Jazeera, excerpts of which he also shared on his X account, that Iran plays a deeply negative role in Lebanon and across the region.
“Unfortunately, the role of the Iranian regime in Lebanon and the region is very negative,” Rajji said. “Given its current negative image, the Iranian regime is considered one of the main sources of instability in the region, and this instability certainly includes Lebanon.”
He stressed that Iran’s leadership, at all levels, is violating Lebanon’s sovereignty, particularly through weapons transfers and by undermining the principle that decisions of war and peace must rest exclusively with Lebanon’s legitimate government.
