Britain once conquered most of the countries of the world and the British army was considered one of the most invincible armies, but an American general claimed that this army was no longer able to protect even Britain itself.
Western media quoted unnamed defense sources as saying that a senior American general had secretly informed British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace that the British Army was no longer considered a high-level fighting force.
The sources stated that the American general told Ben Wallace that in Washington they estimated that the British army, once considered one of the strongest armies in the world, was no longer able to protect Britain and its allies.
According to the information reported in the Western media, America believes that the lack of experience and combat ability in the British army, in addition to the continuous reductions in its budget over the years, have led to a significant drop in its level.
The media reported that the crisis in Britain's military began after repeated cuts in the size of the three armed services since the end of the Cold War by Conservative governments and Labor coalitions to save money for peacetime priorities.
The failure of the British Ministry of Defense to purchase some of its most needed equipment - such as armored vehicles and modern communications systems - despite spending billions of pounds was another factor in the US assessment.
