These things come after, for the past 9 years, the Egyptian regime has dealt painful blows to the movement, with an estimated 10,000 of its people imprisoned.
What further weakened the Muslim Brotherhood was the change in the countries of the two main supporting countries - Qatar and Turkey, which began to move closer to the moderate Sunni axis that sees the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist movement (Saudi Arabia, the Emirates).
