DR. FIAMMA NIRENSTEIN of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs delivered a stark warning at the “Mida” conference: what is unfolding in Europe is no longer just “another wave of antisemitism.”
It is an outright cultural and political war against Jews and against Israel — driven by a dangerous alliance between the radical left, Europe’s cultural elites, and political Islam.
Nirenstein, who previously headed Italy’s parliamentary committee to combat antisemitism, describes a Europe where rejecting Israel has become a ticket to social belonging. In universities, media institutions, cultural spaces, and the public square, being anti-Israel is treated as a moral obligation — while Hamas, political Islam, and extremist movements are excused, minimized, or reframed as “resistance.”
She explains that this trend is rooted in a deep cultural shift. For decades, European elites have shaped a narrative in which Israel represents power, colonialism, and Western “guilt.” At the same time, political Islam has aggressively inserted itself into European discourse, weaponizing victimhood to gain legitimacy and silence criticism. The result is a toxic ideological partnership that blinds Europeans to the violent, extremist nature of Hamas and the dangers of political Islam.
