Benny Gantz, the leader of the "Blue and White" party and a former Defense Minister in both Netanyahu and Bennet-Lapid governments, had some interesting things to say about the failure of Oct. 7:
"I have analyzed again and again what the main failure was at the strategic level, I understood that the problem is - that Israel, as a democratic and progressive nation, wanted to be quiet. Let's tell the truth - if Netanyahu had launched a proactive operation in Lebanon or Gaza before the October 7th - many would have thought he was trying to divert attention from his criminal cases.
And if in the "government of change" (The Bennet-Lapid government) had launched a proactive campaign in Gaza - the other side would have said that we were trying to preserve the government that is falling apart and that this is a unnecessary war.
The main lesson from October 7 for me is that Israel's security concept needs to be supplemented with the initiative component."
