President Biden and his advisors were reportedly “outraged” by Haniyeh’s killing, did not have knowledge in advance about plan to slay Hamas leader.
The Biden administration was “outraged” by the assassination of Hamas politburo head Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week, due to fears that the killing could derail a Gaza ceasefire agreement.
White House officials “responded with surprise and outrage” to news of Haniyeh’s killing on July 31st, the Washington Post reported.
Rather than viewing the assassination as a crucial military victory for Israel in its ongoing war against Hamas, the Biden administration considered the slaying to be a “setback” to ongoing negotiations to end the fighting in Gaza.
