Boston authorities and federal investigators are probing an explosion that shook a Harvard Medical School research building on Saturday, prompting a major law enforcement response on the university’s Longwood campus.

The blast occurred shortly before 3 a.m. inside the Goldenson Building, located in the heart of the Longwood Medical Area. The device, which detonated on the building’s fourth floor, caused limited structural damage but triggered alarms across the area.
