An explosion rocked the Abundant Life Fellowship Church along State Route 12 in Boonville, New York, Tuesday morning, prompting a large emergency response and leaving multiple victims with injuries, local officials and reporters say.

First responders were dispatched after residents reported a strong smell of gas at the church prior to the blast, and the explosion sparked a major fire that consumed parts of the structure.

At least three people are confirmed injured, including a firefighter who entered the building to investigate the gas odor and is now listed in critical condition.
